Kinesthetics and Visuals

Two weeks ago I finally put the last piece into place with my new exercise program. The thing is that I wanted to use the Gama Cast Century, but found that the DOMS was brutal. I not only needed to solidify my weekly yoga practice, but to include yoga as a daily "capper" to my sessions, jsut to de-pressurize the tissues and realign my joints. Finding the 15-minute Ashtanga routine was simply GREAT. It seriously reduced the amount of soreness. Now, by Saturday I'm ready for a day off, but that's why God made Sundays, after all. The point is that in the two weeks since I've started grooving the new routine (which incorporates yoga, martial arts, Bruiser Clubbell, Jump rope, and FlowFit in varying configurations, as well as the 'Legendary Abs" routine) I've seen that soreness is general rather than localized, there is no joint pain, I can easily feel when it's time to take a day off, and I love what I see in the mirror. More on this in six weeks or so...

##

Working on "Night of the Heat" today, and then on the jacket copy for "Shadow Valley" and then back to the "Good House" script. Definitely a juggling act.

##

And in the midst of this, family stuff. Parent-teacher conference at Jason's preschool. Everything seems to be fine. I've got a summer internship lined up for Nicki (who is on the Dean's List again. Yea!) and so that plate doesn't seem to be wobbling at the moment.

##

It looks like I'm going to Worldcon this year. Anybody out there attending?

##

I noticed that Obama has something in common with Bush: they both seem to process information kinesthetically. His "umms" and "ahhhs" before answering, as well as his tendency to look down as he pauses before answering questions, is a hallmark of someone with this style. Bush does much the same thing...which in combination with his malaprops gives the impression of being less intelligent than he actually is. It's a "How does this feel?" tactic. Obama seems to be "Kinesthetic-Visual" which is an interesting combination. "How does this feel, and what do I think about it?" With the thought component expressed in visual images. Personally, I'm ultra-high visual with "constructed" kinesthetic components. Definitely some messy wiring in my head. Most school programs I've seen are designed to be primarily Visual, with some Auditory. Puts kinesthetic processors at a disadvantage. I've met tons of athletes with this style of thinking, and visual types often make the mistake of thinking them stupid.

##

And the question of the day is: in which major area of your life have you had the most difficulty, and to what would you attribute that?

I'm running the gaming area at Worldcon. So I'll be there.

Hrm...after the last few weeks I'm leaning towards Obama again as Hillary's "feel sorry for me" campaign strategy leaves me cold. Obama's comment just ticks of the list in my head of out of touch as much as the rest of them are (I have religion and guns...and I'm bitter...but if I were not bitter I'd still have my religion and guns.) and otherwise I consider it a non-issue.

So Obama is on top again. As a republican, McCain has never been a contender from campaign trail to History channel war interviews...I've never liked him. I follow the libertarians closely...it's possible they may get my vote.

and the question? My struggle has been my weight. I have thought the things contributing that over the years have been many things...but it finally came down to PCOS. Now with the medication proper diet and exercise (not so much exercise...that has been on hold except for skiing and walking...gym access will appear again next month) my weight is dropping by leaps and bounds. It doesn't feel like a struggle any more. Do I have to think of new one?

Most difficulty with what major area of life? Accurately reading other people's body language and emotional states, because I grew up in an abusive household. Plus I don't exhibit typical expression/body language/vocal tone, so people often mistake my sarcasm for sincerity and the reverse.

Your observations on how different minds work is interesting. I am definitely visually challenged. I was a professional statistician and over the years had many engineers and scientists come to me with plots of their data. They thought because I was a statistician I should be able to see patterns in the plots. In truth I was totally hopeless at interpreting plots. Also when I was in my twenties I had a friend who was doing his psychology PhD on IQ tests. He asked my wife and I to help him by participating in his study. We took two IQ tests one was the standard adult Wechsler and one was based upon visual tests with blocks and pictures etc. I scored 30 IQ points lower on the second test than the standard one. My friend told me that kind of difference was one in a thousand. Then my wife took the two tests. She scored 30 IQ points lower on the visual test. Clearly we were a match made in heaven.

On the biggest difficulty in my life, its doing anything for long a period of time. When I do projects I always end up looking for stopping points, then I do something else for a period of time before coming back to whatever I left off of.

Probably my work ethnic, specifically procrastination. Probably because it was a reaction against someone in my life who I thought put too much of an importance on work.

Yes, I am planning to be at WorldCon, although if finances seem shaky, I may cancel. I very much want to go to WorldCon 2009 in Montreal, never having been there.

De-lurking to say I'm pretty darn sure I'm going to WorldCon, so I'll be sure to take a book for you to sign. :>) I really would like to meet you someday.

As for the question . . . I think the difficulty has been in succeeding at something I'm passionate about, and actually finding that passion and following it. I like writing a lot, I'm doing relatively well with it at the moment (royalties, yay!)--but I think my passion still lies in the pile of saxophones in the corner collecting dust since the Master's in music fell through. I feel like I should blame myself, but I don't, because if I'd had the examples and support to believe in myself and make it instead of the opposite, I would have. I crashed in music school because of PTSD caused by my parents, so I blame them. Though now that I'm older and know better I suppose I don't really have any excuses anymore.

I'll be at WorldCon: I voted for Denver even.

You, Matt Stover, and John D. MacDonald are the three best action writers I've ever read -- I'd wager every writer who writes good action scenes would have to be highly visually oriented.

I'm almost completely uninterested in motivations -- which is fine with men, usually, but has caused me lifelong problems with women.
