Mubarak has stepped down. Whoa!

  1. It demonstrates that, contrary to what many Libertarians want to believe, often group solidarity is very useful and powerful!

Their won't be anything to Whoa! over if the Muslim Brotherhood fills Mubarak's place.

Nope, which is why my enthusiasm's tempered by political pragmatism and a hefty amount of angst. I'm all for real democracy, but I've zero tolerance for theocracy, which is what the Muslim Brotherhood, which enjoys the allegiance of a sizable swath of Egypt's professional class, wants. Better Mubarak (or even Saddam!) than Khomeini any day! We can only hope the would-be Middle Eastern revolutionaries of 2011 ruefully remember the disaster of 1979 and choose liberal democracy and progress, not theocracy and madness.
